Intro to Mounted Shooting Clinic

9:30 AM – 3:00 PM

RCR River Ranch Arena | Paso Robles, CA.

Presented by The California Desperados with members Ken Monson (President), Patti Monson, Brenda Caropino, and Mark Caropino.

Registration Info:

* Participants: $225 (Limited to 12)
* Spectator Auditors: $25 (Unlimited)
* Haul-In Auditors: $35 (Limited to 10)

Schedule:

* 9:00 AM – Arena open for warm-up
* 9:30–11:00 AM – Group introduction followed by horse desensitization to firearms and ammunition in the arena. Experienced shooting horses and riders will be on hand for support and confidence building.
* 11:00 AM–12:00 PM – Dismounted session: firearms and ammunition used in Mounted Shooting, firearm safety and handling, proper loading/unloading, and an overview of CMSA rules and handbook.
* 12:00–12:30 PM – Lunch break (lunch available from Sonora Winnies el Nano)
* 12:30–1:30 PM – Ground session: practice loading and live-firing on balloons with clinician support.
* 1:30–3:00 PM – Mounted session: ride through basic courses with the option of dry-firing or using live ammunition.

Additional Information:

* No prior shooting experience is required. Riders from all disciplines are welcome (ages 12+).
* All shooting equipment will be provided (firearms, ammunition, holsters, balloons, and course gear). Riders must bring a sturdy belt for holsters.
* Amenities: Complimentary donuts and coffee at sign-in. Lunch available for purchase.
* Spectators: Unlimited auditor spots with covered bleacher seating.
* Haul-In Auditors: Limited to 10. Horses may be exposed to the sounds of gunfire without participating in the clinic. Once the clinic begins, these auditors may use the warm-up pen.
* Photography: Amanda Roach of sunsethoovesphotography will be photographing the day, with edited images available for purchase right after. Previous clinic photos can be viewed on her website.
* Rain Date: We are still determining an alternate rain-date and will update ASAP.
